Yasser Arafat and his political allies
YASSER ARAFAT greets the Ayatollah Khomeini, Saddam Hussein, and the former Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. Some of these photos derive from the period after Arafat was repeatedly and warmly welcomed at the White House by U.S. President Bill Clinton and awarded the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize.

New postage stamps issued by the Palestinian Authority following Arafat’s death, honor French President Jacques Chirac – an acknowledgement of the tireless support that Chirac gave Arafat on the international stage. After Arafat’s death in November 2004, Chirac called him “a man of courage.” “I bow before President Yasser Arafat and pay him homage,” Chirac said.
